Last November's excursion to Tongue laid the foundations for this one. On the day it was a good\lucky choice of TPs that together with an early start made it possible.
Too many memories to record fully - views of a wild seascape at Cape Wrath, far too much clag for comfort at 2nd and 3rd TPs, some very good climbs as well as some scrappy systems and an entire day doing R\T with Scottish ATC in the class F advisory routes instead of sharing useful soaring info with other gliders.
Finished the declared task at 15:05 local and with more than 5 hours of daylight left couldn't resist trying to stretch the distance southbound. Lucky to find climbs out over the Forth which helped to get South of Edinburgh. Without a N of England map decided to keep the flight 100% Scottish and turned back at Jedburgh for a 4 leg distance of just over 1100km.
It does seem a pity that I can't claim the record or diploma because no logger has an enl system which is igc approved for use with electric gliders - to me the measurements are pretty clear. Still its the memories and the pushing the envelope that counts for more than pots or papers isn't it... |
